Ion's chair broke...I wanted to play with it, too. [He pauses for a moment, thinking. If Ion's chair is broken, then does somebody have to carry him around? Or do they find a new chair? Or--oh hey there's a big stick under his bed he'd totally forgotten about that.]

...Is there a special way to punch people? Like how there's special ways to use a sword, and you have to practice and all of that. So maybe I could learn to fight like that, and then I could save the day and be a hero and ride a dragon and--

[He's been lifting the journal higher and higher over his head as he says this from his position on the floor, to the point that it's practically touching the floor--which is when it slips out of his fingers and falls shut. Oops.]

That's something you'll have to overcome. After all, there are enemies who can look like your friends. If you have trouble, perhaps it would be easier to use your imagination. Pretend this face is the scariest monster you know.

[Well, he's got a pretty good imagination. Florian thinks about it for a few seconds first, though. The scariest thing he can think of...purple Mohs? Van? That dragon he met earlier? Nah, the dragon was nice. Ah well. Nodding!]

[And this time, Jade's face shifts with it more quickly.]

Well done. You're improving. There's still a ways to go, but knowing how to channel what's troubling you is an important first step, Florian.

Channel? [He thinks he kind of gets that. Maybe?]

I'll keep improving until I'm the best! I bet I could do it eventually.

Yes, instead of being afraid, you take all that feeling and put it into your punches. When things are too much, you just keep them busy until help arrives.

But there's something else I've been meaning to ask you, Florian.

That makes sense. That way I won't be afraid anymore, right? I'll just punch it all away!

[He smirks at Florian's declaration, but then he goes more serious as he asks his question.]

I've been wondering if you know who Sync is.

Oh, yeah, I know Sync. He was here before.

[Nodding along as he says this.]

So you've been acquainted. [He gives a nod and rubs at his chin.] I hope you know that you should avoid him at all costs. [The wheelchair incident is fresh on his mind. Sync's antagonism may be focused on Ion, but Jade doesn't want to take any chances about Florian being a target as well.]

[He blinks curiously up at Jade, with that warning.] Why?...Is it because he's so grumpy? [Their last conversation hadn't exactly been the friendliest, but it's hard to think of a fellow greenplica as someone he'd need to avoid.]

That's part of it, yes. He's the one who broke Ion's chair, after all. We can't risk him hurting you as well.

Ohhh...that was mean of him.

He's a mean person all around. Remember how I said that some enemies can look like your friends? You have to think of Sync as a monster wearing yours and Ion's face. And, often, a very silly mask.

...Do you think there's a way to make him nicer somehow?

I doubt that there's any simple cure.

Someone should invent one.

Oh? [An amused smile.] Are you commissioning such an antidote from me? I certainly can try, but I can't make any promises.

You never know until you try! Maybe you'll make something that really works, and we could use it on all the mean people in town!

That would simply be revolutionary. Such a bright mind, Florian. I'll be sure to invest some time and energy in this solution. But in the meantime, you shouldn't let your guard down. I wouldn't like for you to be corned by Sync just minutes before I complete an antidote. You have to be careful.

...That makes sense. I'll be as careful as I can then. I don't want to get in trouble before you finish...
