[florian has been wandering around the village today, peeking in shops, attempting to climb trees, stalking bugs through the grass. the usual thing. he might have even run into one of you wonderful lucetians, it's a definite possibility.

it's been a really long time since he actually properly wrote in this journal thing of his, too, come to think of it - so sometime this afternoon, after a good few hours of running around, he sits down on the ground somewhere and asks an important question.]

I just thought of something...how do you know what you're not supposed to eat? Like, you can eat spinach but you shouldn't eat leaves.

...Do deer eat leaves? Maybe I can eat them after all...

Normally I'd say there's a lot of worlds out there, but maybe there's something about what makes something a fruit that means it doesn't need to be cooked.

[ And kitchen! ]

... I should find something to cut this on.

[ Pretty sure there's a cutting board in one of these cabinets... ]

[Does that mean there's no worlds with fruit that needs cooking...this thought distracts him for a bit. Long enough he almost misses that comment about cutting things, in fact.]

...Oh, when you cut things in the kitchen, you put them on a wooden thing, right?

[Looking curiously around as he says this. Maybe he can find it before Kohan does...]

[ Nope! Sorry Florian. He knows the layout of the kitchen well enough to find a cutting board within checking out two cabinets. ]

Yeah. I found it. [ Placing the pineapple down on it and going for one of the large knives. ]

So... do you think I just cut the spikes off, or all of the skin?

[Darn. He'll just come over and watch you with your knives then.]

Umm...maybe just the spikes? Then if you chop it in slices we could hold the pieces and eat it that way, maybe.

Alright... let's see.

[ And he'll slowly, and possibly overly-carefully, start cutting off the spikes from the pineapple. ]

[Woooowww so careful....if Florian could actually be trusted with sharp objects he'd slice it just like that!! As it stands, though, he'll rest his head on the counter and watch the process.]

...I wonder why it's so spiky, anyway?

Maybe to stop people from eating it?

Oh, maybe!

...But we're eating it anyway.

[ halfway through the spikes, woo! ]

Knives really help a lot, don't they? Sort of like monster fangs, since we don't have any.

What do you mean, monster fangs?

Well knives help us cut things up for eating, right? Fangs help monsters do that.

Fangs are more for stabbing, though. It's different than cutting, but I guess it does sometimes break apart things anyway.

Ohh...so stabbing and cutting are different? I hadn't really thought of that before.

Yeah. [ Okay, done cutting off spikes! He starts cutting slices now. ] Stabbing makes holes. But cutting makes lines. Like this.

...That makes sense. [He watches the slicing in silence for a minute.]

So you use forks to stab things with, right?

Right. [ Aaalright, then. ] Ready to try some? [ He puts the knife down, picks up a slice, and hands it to Florian before picking up one for himself. ]

Ready! [He cheerfully accepts the fruit, taking a really big bite as if it were a watermelon slice or something.

...It's got a lot more flavor than a watermelon, for sure!]

Maybe I should have taken more of the skin off. [ These seems a little too chewy. ]

[Working on chewing his own mouthful over here.]

Maybe we could try to eat around the skin?

Yeah...

[ Kohan bends the slice in half and bites a part of the fruit, avoiding the skin. He chews it for a few seconds, then nods. Yes, this seems better. ]

[Florian's not quite so careful, just going right in and taking another bite, skin or not.

...He pauses a moment to see how Kohan eats though, then tries doing it that way instead.]

[ Kohan finishes chewing and swallowing before he speaks again. ]

Yeah, that's better. Well, I think I like it. What about you, Florian?

[Chewing...chewing....swallowing...]

.....Me too! I think it tastes good.

Good. I'll cut the rest of the slices in half. That way we can avoid the skin.
