[florian has been wandering around the village today, peeking in shops, attempting to climb trees, stalking bugs through the grass. the usual thing. he might have even run into one of you wonderful lucetians, it's a definite possibility.

it's been a really long time since he actually properly wrote in this journal thing of his, too, come to think of it - so sometime this afternoon, after a good few hours of running around, he sits down on the ground somewhere and asks an important question.]

I just thought of something...how do you know what you're not supposed to eat? Like, you can eat spinach but you shouldn't eat leaves.

...Do deer eat leaves? Maybe I can eat them after all...

...He pauses a moment to see how Kohan eats though, then tries doing it that way instead.]

Do you think there's anything that eats the skin too?

Any animals that eat it would have to eat the skin. ... Not sure if any animals eat it, though.

Because the skin is too much trouble? Or maybe it's because they grow somewhere that animals can't reach them. Or the store took them all?

I don't think the store takes all of them. [ He laughs. Oh Florian you so silly. ] Probably the spikes.

You never know! The store could be magic. [Laughing along though! He can't help it.] Spikes makes sense! Since they can't cut the spikes off like we do.

Yeah. Those look even worse to eat than the skin.

An animal would have to split it open somehow.

With a sharp rock or something! Right?

Or maybe they step on it.

Hmm...wouldn't that hurt though? Unless they've got really hard feet.

Horses and things like that have hooves, right?

Oh, that's true! So they could step these things if they wanted.

And it probably wouldn't hurt. And once they broke it open, they could eat through the hole.

[ He laughs softly. ]

But it sounds like you'd ruin a lot of the fruit that way.

You could still eat smashed fruit though, right? So it works out in the end.

Yeah. You'd get dirt all over it, though.

That's true.....if you washed it off would it taste watery? Or would it still be fruity?

[ Laugh. ] Do most foods taste watery after being washed?

.......Sometimes! If there's enough water. But water's good too, so that's not too bad.

I never really thought of water as having a taste. But I don't think animals would wash their food. They'd probably just eat it, dirt and all.

Well, it tastes...watery, right? Having dirt on it's not bad either, though I guess you're not supposed to. [pause] I wonder if people are the only ones who wash the dirt off?

... Huh. Maybe. People are the only ones who do a lot of things, though, right?
