[florian has been wandering around the village today, peeking in shops, attempting to climb trees, stalking bugs through the grass. the usual thing. he might have even run into one of you wonderful lucetians, it's a definite possibility.

it's been a really long time since he actually properly wrote in this journal thing of his, too, come to think of it - so sometime this afternoon, after a good few hours of running around, he sits down on the ground somewhere and asks an important question.]

I just thought of something...how do you know what you're not supposed to eat? Like, you can eat spinach but you shouldn't eat leaves.

...Do deer eat leaves? Maybe I can eat them after all...

If you'd like, we can find some survival books that explain which plants are edible. [And... hope the findings apply to Luceti.]

Uh... humans don't generally eat the same thing as animals. Our digestive systems are different.

Well, sometimes you can. But they can cope with some things we can't, like... they can eat raw meat, but if we eat it, it makes us sick. YOu have to cook it first. And some leaves are-- uh... [Darn, she's not Sanji. He'd be able to explain better, he's a-- oh hey.] You could ask the cooks at Seventh Heaven more about it, if you were curious. They'd know all the whys and why nots.

Well, as a general rule, you shouldn't eat things that make you feel sick. ...Of course, you usually don't know they make you feel sick until after you've eaten them.

Wilderness survival guides in particular. After all, if you're in the wild, you'll need to be able to find food.

[ Florian don't eat the leaves D8 ]

Well, you... ask people. Some things aren't healthy, or can make you sick.

Well... I guess it's because some things just aren't really good for you. Your body needs certain nutrients, and I'm pretty sure you couldn't get most of them from regular old leaves.

Is there some reason you're contemplating eating leaves?

[He wants to point out all the dangers of it, the many poisonous plants, mushrooms, and so forth, but first, to see what her motivation is. It makes a difference.]

I guess... someone tried to eat it at some point. But that doesn't mean you need to also try it.

It would be the best place to start. It will have been written with a human digestive system in mind. [As opposed to the animals he'd hoped to copy; and perhaps opposed to some of the non-human beings in Luceti.]

Do you have plans to take a trip where you might need these skills?

Not really. I don't think there are a whole lot of benefits to eating candy, but that doesn't mean you can't have any at all. You just have to be careful not to eat a lot of it, that's all.

Most of it, yeah. I think some fish you can get away with...but cooks know the most, yes. They have to in order to cook healthy food! [And also they know more than Nami and she's passing the buck, oho.] I'm sure they'd be willing to explain to you.

That's probably not ALWAYS a good idea, because some plants can really make you sick. Maybe you could find a book in the library about it?

Because... what if someone got really sick, or worse? Lots of things are poisonous.
