[florian has been wandering around the village today, peeking in shops, attempting to climb trees, stalking bugs through the grass. the usual thing. he might have even run into one of you wonderful lucetians, it's a definite possibility.

it's been a really long time since he actually properly wrote in this journal thing of his, too, come to think of it - so sometime this afternoon, after a good few hours of running around, he sits down on the ground somewhere and asks an important question.]

I just thought of something...how do you know what you're not supposed to eat? Like, you can eat spinach but you shouldn't eat leaves.

...Do deer eat leaves? Maybe I can eat them after all...

Well... I guess it's because some things just aren't really good for you. Your body needs certain nutrients, and I'm pretty sure you couldn't get most of them from regular old leaves.

Not really. I don't think there are a whole lot of benefits to eating candy, but that doesn't mean you can't have any at all. You just have to be careful not to eat a lot of it, that's all.

Um... Yeah, I guess you could. I mean, unless it's poisonous, because even a little bit of that could be dangerous. I don't really see why you'd have to worry about that here, though.

N-no, I'm pretty sure there are poisonous things here. I just mean that since we can usually get whatever we need from the stores, there's no reason to eat things that we find outside.

Maybe it'd be better to ask someone if they can lend you something? You can always pay them back later. In the meantime, though, you could check out some books in the library, I bet they'd be able to tell you what kinds of plants are safe for eating.

I'm sure there will be some with pictures in them. It'd probably be a lot easier to remember them that way.

Oh, that's a great idea, Florian. You'd be learning something new and having fun at the same time.
